Privacy policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
The short version
- No account, no ads, no tracking, no cookies.
- Test results are stored anonymously, with no name, email or IP address.
- If you pay, we get your email address only to send your result, and we delete it after 30 days.
- We never send marketing emails and never sell data.
Who we are
BrainRank (brainrank.uk) is run by Andraz Miklavcic (private individual), Visoko 119 i, 4212 Visoko, Slovenia. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about privacy at privacy@brainrank.uk.
What we collect, and why
1. Anonymous test results (everyone)
When you finish the test we store: a random test ID, your score, the number of correct answers (overall and per question type), how long you took, when you finished, and whether the result was unlocked. We don't store your individual answers.
This record contains no name, email, IP address, location or device information, and we don't link it to you. We use it to calculate rankings, percentiles and public statistics. Because it can't identify you, we keep it indefinitely as part of the ranking.
2. If you pay for your result
Stripe Checkout asks for your email address and passes it to us. We store it together with the Stripe payment reference, your test ID and a random secret for your result link.
- Why: to email you your result and a link back to it. This is needed to deliver what you bought (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b), performance of a contract).
- How long: your email address is deleted automatically 30 days after your purchase. The payment reference stays because we need it for refunds and accounting. Your result link keeps working.
- We never use your email for anything else. No newsletters and no marketing.
3. Leaderboard nickname (optional)
If your score qualifies, you can choose to show a nickname on the public leaderboard. It's off unless you switch it on. The leaderboard shows only your rank, nickname, estimated IQ and the day you took the test. You can remove your nickname at any time from your result page.
Cookies and browser storage
BrainRank sets no cookies. While you take the test, your progress is kept in your browser's session storage so a page reload doesn't lose your answers. It never leaves your device except when you submit, and it's cleared when you finish or close the tab. That's strictly necessary for the test to work, which is why there's no cookie banner.
There are no analytics, tracking pixels, social media widgets or ads, and no third-party fonts or scripts are loaded.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site and database. Like any web host, it processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and block attacks. We don't store IP addresses in our database.
- Stripe processes payments. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see them. Stripe is an independent controller for payment data and keeps payment records (including your email) as the law requires. Its checkout page may use cookies for fraud prevention. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Resend sends the result email for us, as our processor. Resend may process data in the United States. Transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses. See Resend's privacy policy.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can object to or restrict its use. Email privacy@brainrank.uk from the address you paid with, or send your result link, and we'll handle it within one month.
Anonymous results can't be traced back to you without your result link, so please include it if you want a specific result removed.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Slovenian Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec). You can also contact the authority in your own country, for example the ICO in the UK.
Children
BrainRank is not aimed at children under 16, and paying requires a payment card.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. We won't start collecting more data without saying so clearly here first.
